What Do BC Kidlit Writers Read to their kids?
Kidlit is evolving, with graphic novels booming and reaching a wider age range than ever before.

Whether your child is outgoing or shy, Gateway Theatre’s Summer Camps are the perfect place for your child to learn how to express themselves, gain confidence, and have fun! This July, Gateway is offering week-long Acting and Musical Theatre summer camps for kids ages 6-13.
Our students get the unique opportunity to learn inside a professional theatre in a safe, welcoming environment. Students of all abilities are welcomed to our summer camps and no previous experience is required.
Gateway’s Summer Camp instructors are all industry professionals with real-world experience in auditions, rehearsals and performance, giving campers the opportunity to learn from seasoned performers who provide experience-based training and insights. Through process-based instruction, students discover all that goes into creating a show-stopping performance by diving into every aspect of the creative process – from development to rehearsal, to final presentations.
At Gateway’s camps, students gain an understanding of themselves and others, grow confidence, and develop communication and problem-solving skills. All the while, they learn acting, singing, dancing, and speaking techniques, and have a great time doing it! What they do and how they do it is personally important to them – a self-direction that will benefit them in everything they do.
No matter what the future holds for our students—be it as performers, scientists, or Google employees—they will make their communities better places by bringing the relational skills developed and learned in Gateway’s Summer Camps.

Combine imagination with technique!
A fun on-your-feet physical class, these camps give students a variety of drama skills. From vocal and movement exploration to character-based improv, story-creation to script work, students learn to work together as a group towards a shared goal. Students will be showcasing their skills and growth in an Open Studio or presentation for families on the last day of camp.

Most adults look back on their childhood summers with a certain degree of nostalgia, but as someone who grew up in the ‘90s, I can’t help but think that there was something truly special about those years. Parents, usually mothers, were background figures, accessible in emergencies but otherwise seen only during mealtimes—and sometimes not even…
