Seamless Childcare in BC Schools Is Gaining Momentum
For seamless childcare to reach families province-wide, school districts need ongoing funding and policy support from the provincial government.

As my daughter approaches the final stretch of Grade Three, her brilliance shines through in many aspects, yet spelling poses a challenge. While her teachers haven’t highlighted this issue, I recognized the need to intervene and provide support. It’s something I noticed in Grade One, but unfortunately things just haven’t come together. Despite my best efforts, I realized that attempting to teach her myself only led to frustration for both of us. I refuse to let her disdain for learning stem from learning with me. Thankfully, there’s an alternative and I will continue supporting and advocating for my child.

To embark on this educational journey, I reached out to School is Easy, a reputable tutoring organization renowned for its expansive network of tutors, including those adept at online instruction. Given my daughter’s comfort with online learning and our physical distance from most tutors, it was the logical choice for us.
Our initial step involved a consultation with Susan, the Director of School is Easy. Through this meeting, Susan gained insights into my daughter’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences. She meticulously reviewed recent report cards and collaborated with us to devise a tailored plan. Our strategy entails weekly hour-long sessions until the school year’s end, catering to a kinesthetic activity approach to learning. A reassessment scheduled thereafter to determine the necessity of continuing through the summer or resuming in the fall.
Subsequently, we engaged in discussions with our designated tutor, Erika. Drawing from the insights provided by Susan, Erika proposed incorporating tactile letter shapes into their sessions to facilitate my daughter’s comprehension and help her better understand the vowels in specific words.

Overall, tutoring offers valuable support and guidance that can significantly enhance a student’s academic performance, confidence, and overall educational experience.
Our inaugural tutoring session is scheduled for tomorrow, and anticipation fills the air. We eagerly await witnessing my daughter’s progress, with hopes that her spelling skills will finally click into place and she will gain more confidence in the classroom.
