Are you and your family ready to embark on a magical journey, where dreams come true, and kindness triumphs in the most enchanting way? Look no further than Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, a captivating musical adaptation that promises a magical experience for the young and the young at heart.
This newly updated fairy tale still warms the hearts of children and adults alike, and Gateway Theatre is delighted to share this Tony award-winning Broadway musical. The story was adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity. Not only does it have a sweeping score, but this beloved fairy tale has also been beautifully contemporized for the stage, with a new focus on female empowerment and resiliency.
With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella combines the story’s classic elements – glass slippers, magic pumpkin carriage, and a beautiful ball – along with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairy tale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and spark who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
This enchanting musical will put a spell on audiences of all ages. Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella showcases some of the songwriting duo’s loveliest tunes, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” as well as some new characters and surprising twists. Performed by professional artists, this show also features two young performers from Gateway Academy – Gateway Theatre’s performing arts classes for kids. Children will be dazzled to see their peers perform on stage, giving them hope and aspirations that they too can engage with the performing arts.
Besides the dazzling music, the sets and costumes create a visually stunning experience. The magical transformation of Cinderella’s attire is a particular highlight that will leave children in awe. Attending a live theatre production as a family can be a wonderful bonding experience. The magic of the show can be a shared memory that families treasure for years to come. The grand ballroom scenes, the enchanting transformation, and other theatrical elements create a sense of wonder and magic that will leave children and adults alike spellbound.
With a variety of matinees and special performances, families are bound to find a performance that will match their needs. Gateway Theatre believes in providing access to the performing arts regardless of financial means so they are excited to offer a Pay-What-You-Will Preview performance on December 14th.
