YOU’LL NEED:

  • A bucket, a shallow pan or casserole dish (for holding bubble mix), Bubble wands, spray bottle of water, and a towel (to dry hands)
  • DIY Bubble wands: Pure cotton pipe cleaners, pony beads
  • Big Bubble Wand: 4 Plastic Straws, Cotton String
  • Basic Bubble Mix: Dawn dish soap (1 cup), 4L hot water, ¼ cup glycerin. Gently stir all ingredients together (avoid making it foam). It works best if left to rest overnight before use. Scoop foam off the top as needed.

DIY bubble wands

Encourage children to experiment with making different shaped wands of all shapes by twisting together soft cotton pipe cleaners. These are available at newsstands and tobacconists. Make it an inquiry based activity, asking questions like: “Do you think a square wand will make a square bubble?” Help them decorate (and seal off any pointy ends) with pony beads.
