Tell us about yourself?
I am a mom, author and wellness guide who explores the nature of connection through language, storytelling, and meditation. I love books, creativity, and community! Every month, I guide my newsletter community On The Path and we explore the experience of being human, one feeling at a time. In my children’s book, Your Heart Compass, kids discover how to move through storms of big emotions by tuning in to joy, kindness, courage, and calmness.
Your Heart Compass is available at Kidsbooks, Banyen Books and other local retailers. You can access my guided meditations for kids and adults on Insight Timer.
Where is your hometown?
Vancouver, British Columbia
Describe your family
I share my home with my husband, Hani, my daughter, Leila, my son, Tarik, and our dogs, Muffin and Mookie. We are a mix of Lebanese and Canadian cultures, so we have a lot of passion for food, friendship, and the outdoors!
What’s the most challenging part of being a parent?
For me, the greatest challenge about parenting is unlearning some of the ways that I was parented. For example, when I was a child, I was taught that “the parent knows best”. However, in my experience as a parent, that notion isn’t always true! I am often learning new and great things from my children. So, I try to stay open to learning from them and fostering a two-way relationship with them that is compassionate and collaborative.
What do you love most about being a parent?
I love the joy and wonder that emerges from me when I am with my children. They inspire me to stay curious and playful.
What is the best advice you ever received as a parent?
When my daughter was born, my mother-in-law told me to always lead by example and lead with love. She told me that you can’t tell another person how or what to love but you can show them what love looks and feels like by sharing your love. In many ways, this piece of advice guides the way I show up with love in all aspects of my life.
What is something about you we would find surprising?
I like to be alone. Even though I love people and cherish the relationships in my life, I need time alone every day to read, write and meditate.
What do you do for self-care?
Forest therapy walks and guided meditation.
Thank you Megan for sharing information about yourself and for sharing useful tools to help everyone become more mindful in their daily lives.
The thought of skin cancer for our children may seem remote and not a priority at first thought. However, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. And the rates are rising. In fact, one in every five individuals in British Columbia will acquire skin cancer during their lifetime.
Welcome to modern parenting, where being a dad is a tiring, wonderful, endless ride. Gone are the days when fatherhood meant just bringing home the bacon and occasionally doling out sage advice. Today, the role of a father is a full-time gig, complete with the joys of bedtime stories, the challenges of deciphering teenage slang,…
We are learning from the fields of neuroscience and child-development that children need many positive, face-to-face interactions with attentive, sensitive, and responsive parents or caregivers for healthy brain and nervous system development. Play activities between parent and child are excellent ways to provide these necessary interactions to children. Parent-child play offers unique benefits to children…
