What: National, 100% volunteer-led education charity, Ripple Foundation, is hosting its virtual Write It Workshop at this year’s The Word on the Street Festival Toronto, one of Canada’s largest literary celebrations, which is going virtual for the first time since its inception 31 years ago.
Its free creative writing workshops focus on various aspects of story-writing, including brainstorming, plot development and character creation, and are led by volunteers who have backgrounds in teaching and are passionate about reading and writing. This isn’t the first time the charity is delivering its usually in-person Write It Workshops online, having adapted the program in April 2020 to host virtually on Zoom, which has since grown significantly in popularity.
In addition, Ripple Foundation holds an annual national creative story-writing contest, Kids Write 4 Kids, judged by a panel of media and faces from the publishing world. This year’s winners, announced in July 2020, Tvisha Lakhani, grade 7, and Brynne Storey, grade 4, will also be doing readings of their now published books, and a Q&A for any budding young authors who might be interested in this Fall’s contest.
When: Ripple Foundation will be delivering Brainstorm Bonanza workshop to teach participants how to brainstorm story ideas effectively and how to get these words on the page on Monday, August 24th, 2020, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EST.
There will be an opportunity for children to do readings of their literary creations developed from their workshop learnings on Friday, August 28th, 2020, from 11.00 am – 11:30 am EST.
The 2020 winning authors’ readings and Q&A will take place on ‘Party Day’ on Friday, August 28th, 2020, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am EST.
Where: The event, running from August 17-28, will be accessible to patrons via Zoom.
