Share your go-to family meal hack for a chance to win cash prizes! Bonus: Every qualifying entry brings a $100 donation to a local food bank!
With families spending more time together at home these days, we’ve all been cooking and eating together a little more often than our busy schedules usually allow.
Better Together BC has just launched the inaugural Kitchen Hacks Challenge, an invitation to families across the province to inspire one another by sharing their family meal hacks! The best part? By sharing your go-to meal hack in this challenge, you’ll be supporting those who may need additional help and resources during this time; for the first 100 entries received, BC dairy farmers will donate $100 to local food banks in BC. So, by entering this challenge, you won’t just be having fun in the kitchen – you’ll also be helping with the COVID-19 relief efforts!
So, what exactly is a kitchen hack?
What’s a kitchen hack, you ask? A kitchen hack is any tip or trick that helps you make a family meal happen in your home. It could be your favourite go-to recipe or ‘prep-cipe’ (a recipe with a partially pre-prepped element) or any tip (like batch cooking) or trick (like getting the kids to help) that makes it easier for your family to cook and eat together.
Here’s how to enter:
From now until noon on May 22nd, BC families can enter the Kitchen Hacks Challenge online!
- To enter, simply share a video showing your best family meal hack (such as a go-to recipe or time-saving trick!).
- Make sure to keep the video under 60 seconds! This rule will be strictly enforced.
- Upload your video to the contest page.
This is a fun, simple challenge you can do with your kids at home. Nothing fancy is required – just share your hack, and why it works for your family. Learn more about making a video, judging criteria, and rules on the contest page.
Big prizes up for grabs!
The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $1000 cash as determined by this year’s judges:
- Samantha Gutmanis, food editor and blogger
- Anna Brisco, chef, registered dietitian, and nutrition educator
- Art Napoleon, TV personality + Wild Bush Cook
- Barb Finley, teacher, chef and Founder & Director of Project CHEF
A second cash prize of $500 will be awarded the ‘People’s Choice Award’ AKA. the most popular video as determined by you! Don’t forget to cast your vote for the video you think is best here. BC dairy farmers will match both winning amounts in donations to Food Banks BC.
So, what are you waiting for? Get filming and enter here before May 22nd for a chance to win and support those in our community that need additional help and resources during this time.

Better Together BC was founded as a partnership between the BC Ministry of Health and BC Dairy Association. It is maintained by the BC Dairy Association as a resource for, and a network of, people sharing their stories and tips around eating together with a goal of helping BC families experience the joys of eating together. Research tells us that the benefits of eating together include better nutrition, better school performance, and better social adjustment for everyone involved: kids, youth, and adults. We know it’s not always easy, but we’re all in this together!
